Course Information

This course is primarily targeting on new investors in horticulture and middle and upper layer management staff who are “blank” in advanced high-tech greenhouse horticulture. In an intensive 5 day course, all basic technology, crop cultivation and socio-economic managerial aspects will be highlighted.

Course Program

Day 1: Macro en Micro greenhouse horticulture

  • Macro: Greenhouse sector overview. World / Netherlands; status quo, trends and developments
  • Micro: Plant Growth and Development / Basic Botany
    • Plant physiology, photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, plant growth factors
    • Plant growth & development of roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits.
  • Field visits: In-depth explanation of state-of-the-art greenhouse systems and cultivation concepts in GreenQ Improvement Centre

Day 2: Greenhouse Systems

  • Construction site selection criteria, greenhouse types / construction considerations / greenhouse coverings
  • Greenhouse climate control systems, energy conservation options, greenhouse maintenance
  • Greenhouse mechanization and automation.
  • Field visits: visits to greenhouse constructor and visit of high-tech greenhouses.

Day 3: Crop Production Systems

  • Crop selection, variety choice criteria
  • Crop cultivation systems and technology
  • Introduction greenhouse climate monitoring, analysis and control
  • Production and post-harvest process
  • Field visits: Breeding greenhouse and post-harvest grading / distribution centre

Day 4: Optimizing crop production environment

  • Optimizing greenhouse climate
  • Substrate selection, irrigation and fertigation, control and automation.
  • Integrated pest management and pollination systems
  • Field visits: horticultural MRL and water analysis laboratory

Day 5: Optimizing greenhouse management

  • Production planning, production forecasting
  • Company organisation, organisational structure, greenhouse labour management
  • Round table discussions and certificate ceremony

Price and Payment

Price for this 5 day course € 2750,- (Excl. VAT). Price is excluding flight, hotel, food and local transport. Price is including lunch, course materials and tours. After registration, you will receive an invoice. Payment should be completed 2 weeks before start of course. Registrations will only become valid after full payment in advance.
