Course Information

“Keep the growth in control!” is a practical Master class about the most important technical cultivation themes. The purpose is to expand and develop technical cultivation insight, to develop better growing skills and to sharpen control skills. The Master class is based on the transition from fundamental knowledge and science to the application of practical tools for effective crop management. We will link theoretical views to practical situations with examples, cases and tours of the relevant subjects. As such, basic knowledge about crop and climate management is recommended as a prerequisite. Focus crop will be tomato.

Course Program

1. “How does a plant grow and how can I control my crop effectively?”

  • Based on plant physiology we will compare the plant reaction to different climate circumstances.
  • The effect of different temperatures on plant model and the distribution of assimilates.
  • Differences between varieties in growth and plant development.

2. “Substrates and irrigation”

  • Irrigation strategies, the effect of cycle size and start and stop times.
  • Importance and effect of EC and pH levels on the growing process.
  • Short explanation of function and effect of the different nutrients.

3. “Effective greenhouse climate”

  • Effects of heating, ventilation and screens on greenhouse climate.
  • The relation between outside circumstances and greenhouse climate and set-points.
  • Differences in computer climate settings between winter and summer.
  • Limits in climate settings for a safe crop development.

4. “Crop evaluation and registration”

  • How to evaluate a plant? Crop registrations, why and how to use it?
  • The effect of LAI (Leaf Area Index), a balanced plant load and continuous production.

5. “Effects of labour force on plant quality”

  • Leaf pulling or cutting, clipping or twisting plants: (dis-) advantages.
  • The effect of crop-work on plant balance, production and product quality.
  • What has the highest pay-back: low cost or quality?
  • Explanation on pro and con of different tools.

6. “Prevention and control of pests and diseases”

  • Execution of hygiene protocols.
  • How to keep track of the crop health?
  • Detection of the most important pests and diseases.

Target group, trainers and maximum amount of trainees

  • The content of the Master class is aimed primarily at experienced growers and their staff.
  • The trainers in the Master class are consultants and experts with directly related international focus and experience.
  • Min. amount of participants: 5. Max. amount of participants: 10. (Due to intensive and interactive course method).

Price and Payment

Price for this 5 day course € 2750,- (Excl. VAT). Price is excluding flight, hotel, food and local transport. Price is including lunch, course materials and tours. After registration, you will receive an invoice. Payment should be completed 2 weeks before start of course. Registrations will only become valid after full payment in advance.
