Course Information

“Mastering Energy” is a practical course for vegetable growers. “How to use energy consumption optimally in cultivation” is the key factor which will be the central topic this course. The application of new techniques and growing strategies, which together can be called “The New Cultivation”, provides many options for the more efficient use of energy. In addition to the substantial energy savings, The New Cultivation concept also contributes significantly to fruit quality and plant health.

The aim is to further develop and/or to improve your cultivation-related insight and control technology skills (with new technologies). For that reason, basic knowledge about crops and climate is required. The various aspects of cultivation are explained theoretically for each subject, but practical direct application is also demonstrated. The course gives you the opportunity to immediately set to work with the more efficient use of energy and, therefore, to make savings in terms of energy costs.

Course Program

“The New Cultivation” and saving energy

  • Experiences and results from the various projects.
  • Air treatment (heating, cooling, dehumidifying, humidifying).
  • Double (triple) screens, mobile and/or fixed screens, choice of cloth.
  • (New) techniques that can be applied, the difference between systems, etc.

“Cultivation and energy”

  • Photosynthesis and the growing process, the effect of light, LAI, CO2 and temperature.
  • Vaporisation and microclimate of the plant, the Mollier diagram and moisture deficit.
  • The effect of air movement, limit values air humidity, vapour pressure deficit (VPD).
  • Production, earliness and fruit quality.

“The greenhouse and energy”

  • Energy balance in the greenhouse, vertical and horizontal inequality, energy flows.
  • Greenhouse heating, low temperature, growing tube or tubular rail.
  • Energy saving screen, double screen, effects on the crop, plant temperature.
  • Energy-conscious water provision, vaporising costs energy, irrigation strategy.

“Optimisation of cultivation and energy in a conventional greenhouse”

  • Optimisation of cultivation plans, plant density and growing strategy.
  • Producing energy plans and climate strategy.
  • Good coordination technology and climate computer.
  • Producing a cultivation and energy plan for your own company, where, using existing equipment, crops are cultivated as energy-efficiently as possible.

Target group, trainers and maximum amount of trainees

  • Course is aimed at primarily at experienced growers and their staff.
  • The trainers in this course are consultants and experts with directly related international focus and experience.
  • Min. amount of participants: 5. Max. amount of participants: 10. (Due to intensive and interactive course method).

Price for this 3 day course € 1950,- (Excl. VAT). Price is excluding flight, hotel, food and local transport. Price is including lunch, course materials and tours. After registration, you will receive an invoice. Payment should be completed 2 weeks before start of course. Registrations will only become valid after full payment in advance.
